About the artist:
Born in 1960 in Delhi, Seema Kohli has created her own niche in the world of contemporary art. A self- trained artist, Seema’s works reveal a claiming of feminine subjectivities, an altered concept of feminine sexuality. The paintings by Seema Kohli bring into focus a woman’s physical attributes, her intellect, thoughts, dreams and realities. There is a celebration of beauty, sensuality and intimacy in her art. Continually nudging at the boundaries of myth and reality, self and the other, she has extended the boundary of her practice spilling it across the canvas of life. For Seema, art and life truly intersect. She works in wide range of mediums ranging from painting, murals, experiential installation performances, films, installations, sculptures; all with a unique expression of her style. She has over time brought a synergy of her unique sensibilities. Working with oils on canvas, inks, mixed mediums, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking, her work has redefined the basic contours of figurative art in India. Apart from several solo shows, Seema Kohli’s paintings in Delhi have been a part of numerous national and international shows.
