About the artist:
Born in 1958 in Jaipur, Rajasthan Sujata Bajaj’s works display an abstract oeuvre and incorporates something of the myth and folk culture, together with classical Indian aesthetics. There is a contemporary and somewhat international sensibility in her work that appears in a conglomeration of a variety of media, like a collage on paper, wax, paint, etc. Each of her work acts as a variation on the past, the ancestral inheritance, in the ochre yellow and red palette can be recalled into the ritual circle of sacrifice; a hero-stone, a tribal totem, a lost goddess of fertility is suggested by certain motifs; and in the elegant calligraphy of the sacred texts, the hymns resonate the pitch of perfection.
