ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

This exhibition brings together four of India’s most esteemed contemporary artists—Paresh Maity, Manu Parekh, Jayasri Burman, and Sanjay Bhattacharyya—each of whom has played a significant role in shaping the discourse of Indian modern and contemporary art. Their works transcend the boundaries of time and tradition, offering a vivid exploration of identity, spirituality, nature, and culture.

Paresh Maity’s evocative landscapes pulse with vibrancy, capturing the essence of India’s terrain and spirit through bold colors and fluid forms. Manu Parekh, with his profound focus on Varanasi, delves into the sacred and the chaotic, juxtaposing the metaphysical with the urban pulse of life. Jayasri Burman’s mythical and dreamlike figures echo ancient stories, yet are deeply rooted in contemporary concerns of womanhood, nature, and spirituality. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, in a departure from his signature realism, presents a new series of abstract works, exploring form, color, and texture in ways that challenge the viewer’s perception and evoke an emotional response.

Together, these four artists offer a powerful narrative, intertwining past and present, tradition and innovation. “Master Strokes” invites viewers to engage with the diverse yet interconnected languages of these celebrated artists, each a master in their own right, creating a dialogue that resonates with the shared cultural consciousness of India.
