Seema Ghurayya
Seema Ghurayya’s works are almost minimal and yet captivating. Light colours and sparse strokes complimented her abstract, indescribable subjects such as lightness, silence and freshness. She abstained from choosing any recognizable forms, choosing instead to give voice to the quiet. She credits the rock carvings in Bhimbetka near Bhopal as inspiration for some of her drawings. Ghurayya was born (1964) in Gwalior. She graduated with a National Diploma and Master’s in painting from Jiwaji University, Gwalior (1986). She held 10 solo shows at venues like Kala Vithika Chemould Art Gallery, Taj Art Gallery and at Gallery Espace. In addition she was also a part of several group shows. Ghurayya was a recipient of the All India Kalidas Award (1985), awards by South Central Zone Culture Centre, Nagpur, and Bharat Bhavan (1988), the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (1995) and and the Raza Foundation Award (2002).
