Gallerie Nvya is pleased to present an exhibition of two renowned artists who examine, through their male gaze, the multifaceted notions of social and familial representations of a traditional Indian woman in contemporary society through her feminine appearance.

G. Ravinder Reddy, Relief- III, 37 x 37 x 7 inches, Painted and gilded on Polyester resin fiberglass, 2024

Our intent is to present an exhibition that allows a juxtaposition of works to showcase an ongoing conversation between two artists with similar education, who hail from the same region off the Eastern Ghats, from a state divided into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana just a decade ago. And yet, their artistic practices provide a living archive of more than 40 years marking unique characteristics of prevalent cultures of the region, through the use of women as bearers of visual and material culture.

Thota Vaikuntam, TV-0081, 36 x 48 inches, Acrylic on canvas, 2024

The exhibition will focus on the iconic representations of Indian women through sculptural works of Ravinder Reddy and paintings by Thota Vaikuntum, depicting attire, ornaments, and other embellishments that may be used to enhance womanhood, and therefore giving women visibility, as well as agency.
